A significant controversy erupted when Chandrababu Naidu made a shocking allegation, claiming that the previous YSR Congress government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy used animal fat instead of ghee in the sacred sweets—'Tirupati Prasadam'—at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) asserted that lab reports from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam indicate that the famous Tirupati laddus contain "beef tallow, fish oil," and other substandard ingredients.

The alleged lab report also indicated the presence of “lard” (related to pig fat) in the samples. The Tirupati laddu samples were sent to a livestock laboratory in Gujarat, with the sample receipt dated July 9, 2024, and the lab report dated July 16.

In light of the lab reports, TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy stated, “The lab reports confirm that beef tallow, animal fat - lard, and fish oil were used in the preparation of ghee supplied to Tirumala, and the S value is only 19.7.”

YSRCP spokesperson Narayanan Murthy labeled the allegations as ‘baseless,’ telling CNN-News18, “We will approach the court. These are unfounded accusations by the CM. Let them provide proof. The CM has hurt public sentiments and insulted Hindus.”

YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Y V Subba Reddy also criticized Naidu's remarks, stating, "CM Chandra Babu Naidu has made unfounded comments about Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Prasadam, which hurt Hindu sentiments. I have faith in Lord Balaji, and I believe you do too. I am prepared to take an oath before Lord Balaji; are you willing to do the same? If you are not ready to take the oath, we will take legal action."

Subba Reddy accused Naidu of spreading "fake news" and claimed that the TDP government has failed. "Before the elections, they circulated false information about YSRCP, and they continue to do so now. In the past 100 days, their governance has faltered, and to divert attention from this, they have raised this issue," Reddy stated.

He further clarified that during YSRCP's rule, they used 60 kg of ghee per day. "From 2014 to 2019, we made enhancements in procurement during our regime. Anil Singhal served as Executive Officer under both our administration and theirs. We require 60 kg of ghee daily for naivedya. For the past three years, we have implemented the use of organic products, including ghee, in TTD. We source our ghee from Rajasthan, using desi cows, with the support of donors," he added, as reported by ANI.

However, in response to the lab reports, Andhra Pradesh Minister and TDP leader Nara Lokesh stated that the previous government's misrule had tarnished the reputation of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. He remarked, "We warned that any misuse of God's name would lead to devastation. From 2019 to 2024, our alliance (Janasena Telugu Desam) repeatedly criticized the then-government (YSRCP). We highlighted the substandard production of Tirumala laddus using animal fat, supported by lab reports. The previous administration's mismanagement has damaged the reputation of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam."

Union Minister and BJP National General Secretary Bandi Sanjay condemned the use of animal fat in consecrated sweets, stating that tainting them is an unforgivable sin. Speaking to the news agency ANI, he remarked, "Tirumala laddu is regarded as a very 'holy prasadam,' and contaminating it is an unforgivable sin. During the previous government's tenure, some individuals from other religions were inducted into the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) board, which likely led to this incident. I urge the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct an immediate investigation and take strict action."

President of BJP OBC Morcha K Laxman called for legal action on Thursday. In an interview with ANI, he stated, "It is extremely unfortunate. The feelings of the Hindu community have been deeply hurt. The entire Hindu community worldwide condemns the actions of the previous government.
